Liberal pundit Bob Beckel returned to “The Five” for the first time in almost two years and was thrilled to be reunited with his former Fox News colleagues.
He resumed his role as a co-host alongside Eric Bolling, Kimberly Guilfoyle, Greg Gutfeld and Dana Perino.
Guilfoyle kicked off the love-fest with a giant affectionate hug, saying, “Come to mama.”
Beckel, who was fired in June 2015 after his self-admitted battles with alcoholism and drug abuse, said he missed his co-hosts and Fox News fans.
“Most of you right-wingers, you wished me well and you like me, and I appreciate it very much,” Beckel said. “I missed you very, very much.”
The former Democratic strategist was known for his heated debates with his politically conservative co-hosts of the top-rated daily TV show.
Beckel, an outspoken critic of Donald Trump, joked about a recent nightmare.
“I had three back operations,” he recounted. “I wake up out of the fog and had this horrible dream that Donald Trump got elected president. And then I woke up and I said, ‘It’s true!'”
Greg Gutfeld needled Beckel about his 14-month stint at CNN, where he worked after Fox let him go. “How was the Green Room food at CNN compared to ours?” Gutfeld asked (see video at 10:12).
Beckel laughed: “I was told not to mention CNN so thanks, Greg, for putting me in a box like that.”
Beckel then suggested that he prefers the down-to-earth banter at “The Five” compared to the dull, stilted panel discussions at CNN.
“Let me just say, I appreciate my opportunities,” he recounted. “But when somebody says to me in an argument, ‘I hate to disagree with my esteemed colleague…’ And I said, ‘Your what?'”
Gutfeld followed up by pointing out that Beckel once fell asleep during a segment with Don Lemon.
