Trump announces which Twitter handle he’ll use as president

Donald Trump has no plans to change his Twitter habits after he becomes president.

Trump will continue to shoot down fake news reports using his personal account @realDonaldTrump, citing his huge social media following on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram combined.

While Trump’s team initially said the billionaire will take over the official presidential account @POTUS, Trump doesn’t see why he should change since his personal account has been so useful to him. Besides, Trump says his personal Twitter account has 20 million followers, while @POTUS only has 13.5 million.

“I think I’ll keep it,” Trump told the Sunday Times. “I’ve got 46 million people right now. That’s really a lot … including Facebook, Twitter and ya know, Instagram … I’d rather just let that build up and just keep @realDonaldTrump. It’s working.”

Trump previously suggested he may cut down on Twitter use after he takes office, but said the liberal mainstream media has been so dishonest that he has no choice but to keep using Twitter to get his message out — unfiltered by media spin.

“I thought I’d do less of it, but I’m covered so dishonestly by the press — so dishonestly — that I can put out [the truth on] Twitter,” Trump said.

While the panicked media have been urging Trump to stop tweeting when he takes office, his supporters hope he continues, saying Twitter is the best way for him to get his message out directly to them and the world.

Trump loyalists say the “lying liberal press” is just upset because they’ve lost control of the narrative, and as president he can bypass them and communicate directly to millions of people.

Incoming White House press secretary Sean Spicer said a Trump presidency means “business as usual” is over for the mainstream media.

“There are some new opportunities that we can be utilizing to bring more people into the process and have a conversation with the American people and not just limit it through the filter of the mainstream media,” Spicer said.
