Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, otherwise known as Pocahontas, used her questioning time at Dr. Ben Carson’s Senate Confirmation Hearing to try and wax eloquent about Donald Trump’s business arrangements, but it was Warren herself who ended up on the wrong end of a cool Carson mic drop.
Before answering a much more relevant question about lead contamination in America’s public housing units, the man tapped to lead Housing and Urban Development first had to contend with Warren’s grandstanding.
“Can you assure me that not a single taxpayer dollar you give out will financially benefit the president-elect or his family?” Warren asked, supposedly trying to “highlight the absurdity” of Trump turning over his business to his children instead of completely divesting himself.
It’s an unreasonable and impossible question, of course, but Carson at first tried to hold back, saying that he would “manage things in a way that benefits the American people.”
The fact that Warren continued to press the issue forced Carson to “highlight the absurdity” of Warren’s question:
“If there happens to be an extraordinarily good program that’s working for millions of people, and it turns out that someone you’re targeting is going to gain ten dollars from it, am I going to say ‘no, the rest of you Americans can’t have it?’ I think logic and common sense would probably be the best way,” Carson responded, cool, calm and collected as always.
Carson probably knows you can’t explain “logic and common sense” to a liberal, but it was certainly noble of him to try.
Warren tried to continue her grandstanding on that issue for another minute, but ended up changing the subject herself to the issue of lead poisoning. After Carson’s mic drop, that was really her only option.
