After the Wall Street Journal released his name to the public, the former British spy who assembled the “fake news” dossier on Trump that made CNN and BuzzFeed look so bad this week is now in hiding, supposedly “in fear for his life.”
The information in the dossier had been floating around the media for many months but none touched it because the info can’t be substantiated. But after it was written about by CNN and then actually released in full by BuzzFeed on January 10, the story was ridiculed as “fake news” and the report called a hoax.
President-Elect Donald Trump also slammed the CNN/BuzzFeed story just ahead of his January 11 press conference.
And Trump’s disdain for the “fake news” story led to a tense confrontation with CNN’s Jim Acosta during the presser as Trump refused to take a question from hm and then blasted CNN saying, “You are fake news.”
As the fake news aspect of the story gained momentum the Journal released the name of the spy who wrote it up for opposition researchers, both Republican and Democrat, looking for dirt on Donald Trump.
But now, The Daily Mail is reporting that ex-MI6 intelligence officer Christopher Steele, of the London-based Orbis Business Intelligence, has gone into hiding.
Steele has now fled his home in London and disappeared. The Mail also reported:
Steele, 52, was seen fleeing his gated Surrey home in his car yesterday and appears to have been in such a rush most of the lights were left on.
A security source said: ‘He is terrified for his safety’, adding he may now be abroad or in a safe house.
Neighbors say that Steele dropped off his cat with them and asked if they could watch the animal while he was away. But he didn’t say how long he would be gone or where he was going.
