White American Idol alumni fights Popeyes for how he was treated; he’s tired of ‘racist double standards’

American Idol alumni Bo Bice got a Popeye’s employee suspended because, he said, he has had it with “racist double standards.”

The singer said on Facebook that he had placed his order at the restaurant in Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta, Georgia when one of the employees mocked his name and referred to him as “that white boy there,” according to Bice who included a photo of the women.

Bice, who came in behind Carrie Underwood on season four of the hit talent show, became more incensed when Facebook deleted his post because, it said, he violated community standards.

“My post about the racist behavior at Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen #4625 received over 45,000 reached, 800 likes, 250 comments and 350 shares in 27hrs. Facebook deleted my post last night and in turn silenced the opinion of all of you and me who are tired of the racist double standards that have infested our society,” he wrote.

“All I wanted was an apology… Now, Popeyes’s will be hearing from my attorney, and to all you FB fans of mine, I’ll be deleting this communist media platform from my devices and life. You took CORPORATE POPEYE’S side Facebook, but you should have checked the validity of their complaint. You cannot stifle my opinion and TRUTHS without it being seemingly one sided. Read trough the post and show me where my words meet the rules that FB has in place for removing posts,” he said.

In an interview with Fox 5 DC Bice had tears when he discussed the incident.

The fact that I have to come on TV and calm down a notch, and look like a petty little brat by tweeting and Facebooking this just to open up dialogue so we can have an adult conversation is ridiculous,” Bice said.

He then looked at the camera and said “America, you should be ashamed.”

“If tables had been turned and I used something as insensitive like that, I would be boycotted, there would be people not buying my my albums, there’d be people coming and picketing at my shows, and everything else,” Bice said.

And he is correct.

But the fact is that before the controversy is done it is Bice who is likely to be called a racist for standing up for himself.
