Donald Trump took a jab at leftist Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and inadvertently launched a viral Twitter hashtag.
The president-elect lamented Chicago’s “record-setting” murder rate in 2016, and said if Emanuel can’t handle it, he should ask for federal help.

While Chicago is the nation’s third-largest city, it had 762 homicides in 2016 — more than New York and Los Angeles combined. Chicago’s shocking murder rate is higher than it has been in 20 years.

What’s more, shootings in 2016 skyrocketed to 4,385 (both fatal and non-fatal), from 2,900 the previous year despite the fact that Chicago has some of the strictest gun-control laws in the United States.
