CNN’s Don Lemon drew plenty of reaction to his drunken antics on the air New Year’s Eve including some serious shade from a former network anchor.
Viewers were entertained by a “lit” Lemon who downed shots of tequila and even got his ear pierced while hosting CNN’s live New Year’s Eve broadcast from New Orleans. For former CNN anchor Soledad O’Brien, this was a definite low for journalism.
A drunk anchorman got his ear pierced live on tv last night. It’s a very low bar for credibility. https://t.co/EheJVwv4Ee

Of course, the terms “credibility” and “CNN” together might be a stretch anyway.
@soledadobrien a very low moment last night, my of my what the new “standard” has become

At this point, I’m pretty convinced CNN only accidentally reports news. @soledadobrien

Let’s be honest….
I’m not sure if “Don Lemon” & “credibility” go in the same sentence.

O’Brien, who left CNN in 2013, also commented on the other New Year’s “catfight” between MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough and CBS’s Sopan Deb. The Twitter battle over Scarborough’s appearance at President-elect Donald Trump’s New Year’s Eve party at Mar-a-Lago even got CNN’s Chris Cuomo and the New York Times’ Maggie Haberman involved.
One day into 2017 and we’re continuing the @MSNBC vs @CNN now @CBS and sorta #@NYT reporter catfights! Happy New Year, everybody! https://t.co/BCUh0JYS7a

This was not the first time O’Brien was critical of her former employer, as she slammed CNN in September for giving airtime to white supremacists in covering Donald Trump’s election campaign.
“I’ve seen on-air, white supremacists being interviewed because they are Trump delegates,” she said in an appearance on CNN on September 4, 2016. “And they do a five minute segment, the first minute or so talking about what they believe as white supremacists. So you have normalized that.”
“That’s where journalists are failing: the contortions to try to make it seem fair,” she added.
