The freshman House member and former Navy SEAL commander has accepted the offer, sources told Fox News on Tuesday.

An early Trump supporter, Zinke met with the president-elect at at Trump Tower on Monday and discussed “a wide range of issues,” he told Fox News’ Steve Doocy on Tuesday. “If the president asks you to do something, it’s very difficult to say no,” Zinke said, describing Trump as “very, very inquisitive.”

In the House, Zinke serves as a member of the Armed Services and Natural Resources committees. The 55-year-old ex-Navy SEAL commander is a recipient of two Bronze Stars for combat missions in Iraq.

Also in the running for the Interior Secretary post was Washington Rep. Kathy McMorris Rogers, who met with Trump at least two times in the last few days, according to Fox.

Trump’s communications director, Jason Miller, spoke about Zinke in the transition team’s morning call with reporters, The Billings Gazette reported.

“Congressman Zinke is a strong advocate for American energy independence. And he supports an all-encompassing energy policy that includes renewable, fossil fuels and alternative energy,” Miller said. “Additionally, Congressman Zinke believes we need to find a way to cut through bureaucracy to ensure our nation’s parks, forests, and other public areas are properly maintained and used effectively.”

As Montana’s lone congressman, Zinke won a second term in the U.S. House of Representatives. If he leaves for a post in the Trump cabinet, Democratic Gov. Steve Bullock would need to appoint a replacement congressman from a list of three nominees selected by the Republican Party, according to the Billings Gazette.
