The star couple of HGTV’s “Flip or Flop” announced their separation after seven years of marriage, upsetting countless fans of the home makeover show.

Six months after police responded to an altercation at the couple’s California home, Tarek and Christina El Moussa called it quits on their marriage.

“Like many couples, we have had challenges in our marriage,” the real estate duo said in a statement to People magazine on Monday. “We had an unfortunate misunderstanding about six months ago and the police were called to our house in an abundance of caution. There was no violence and no charges were filed.”
Despite counseling to “sort out” the relationship, the couple decided to separate and evaluate “the future of our marriage.”
“During the process, we are committed to our kids and being the best parents we can be,” they said. “We will continue to work through this process civilly and cooperatively, and plan to continue our professional life together.”
Nearly a dozen deputies and a helicopter responded to “a call of a possibly suicidal male with a gun” at the couple’s Orange County home back in May, TMZ reported. Tarek, 35, allegedly ran from his home with a gun, which he dropped when the helicopter spotted him and deputies ordered him to do so.
He said he had no intention of hurting himself and only wanted to “blow off some steam,” according to TMZ.

Tarek and Christina, 33, were married in 2009 and have a one year-old son, Brayden and six year-old daughter, Taylor.
