CNN’s Anderson Cooper went after Donald Trump Tuesday in response to a series of tweets the president-elect made directed at a recent flag-burning controversy.
“When I first heard that he was tweeting about something that was on this broadcast … I kept thinking, ‘Doesn’t he have, like, a briefing book on ISIS to be reading last night?’”
The issue first arose when Hampshire College, a small Massachusetts liberal arts university, ruled that it would no longer fly the American flag after a student took it down and burned it. This prompted outrage from not only Trump but also hundreds of veterans who appeared on campus and Fox News host Tucker Carlson, who destroyed the flag-burning student in a fiery debate.
Cooper was nonetheless stymied as to why Trump should embroil himself into this brouhaha instead of preparing himself for running the country.
“There’s a huge amount of information … for him to be absorbing now,” he told his panel, before referring to other tweets Trump had made directed at CNN.
“I appreciate he is watching the show. … But what is he doing?” Cooper asked.
The president-elect blasted the network for calling him a “sore winner” after he claimed that after deducting illegal votes, he’d won the popular vote in the presidential election as well as the electoral vote.
As for what the president-elect is doing, Cooper should try watching the news. Trump is busy interviewing cabinet hopefuls.
