Southern Poverty Law Center senior writer claims ‘Drain the Swamp’ is…wait for it…’racist’

Ryan Lenz, a senior writer for the liberal activist group the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), is saying that the phrase “drain the swamp” is racist.

Lenz made his statement this week in reaction to video of a small gathering of white nationalists CNN host John Berman had aired. Lenz said the video is evidence that Nazism is growing in America and insisted that President Elect Donald Trump forcefully denounce the group, the Free Beacon reported.

Lenz  made a wide leap that anyone who voted for Trump hoping the new president would “drain the swamp” is obviously a “racist.”

“He said he’s going to drain the swamp. Drain the swamp was a meme, a twitter hashtag that grew, exploded,” Lenz pointed out. “It was spread specifically — or among the people spreading the drain the swamp hashtag were avowed racists, white supremacists who exist on Twitter to harass and demean various ethnic groups.”

Trump bypasses media, outlines first 100 days, lays out list of executive actions, in video message

So, as far as Lenz is concerned, anyone who wants to eliminate decades of entrenched, big government lobbyists, high taxes, and corruption is a “racist.” How he made that leap in logic is hard to fathom.

In fact, even the CNN host thought Lenz’ claim didn’t hold up to scrutiny.

Host Berman replied, “there are plenty of people who are in favor of draining the swamp, not having lobbyists involved and taking some of the money out of politics that I’m sure have no notion at all that is in anyway a connection or supported by groups like this.”

The SPLC imagines itself the arbiter of who is and who is not running a “hate group” and is often used — contrary to good journalistic standards — as a sole source of “proof” that one person or group or another is a racist or “hate group.” Each year the SPLC puts out a wide-ranging list of such hate groups, but there is no second opinion and no back up by any third-party lending veracity to its list. The FBI doesn’t even assemble such a list, at least not one for public consumption.

This is a group that claims to have the interests of minorities foremost in mind, yet is staffed almost entirely by white liberals.

To show how biased the SPLC is, during the recent campaign for president, the group put mild-mannered GOP presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson on its “extremists watch list.” The SPLC is also widely known as a virulently anti-Christian attack group.
