Sources say Melania and Barron Trump won’t move into White House, will stay in NYC for school

In what may be seen as a surprise move, if true, soon to be first lady Melania Trump will not move to Washington, D.C. in January, opting instead to stay behind in New York City so son Barron can stay in school there.

Mrs. Trump is “staying put at the family’s glitzy Trump Tower penthouse so that Barron can continue attending his Upper West Side private school,” the New York Post reported.

The article cites unnamed sources close to Trump’s transition team.

“Melania is extremely close to Barron, and they have become closer during the campaign,” one source close to Trump’s transition team told the Post. “The campaign has been difficult for Barron, and she is really hoping to keep disruption to a minimum.”

“Melania is very supportive of her husband and is fully on board of doing everything that is needed as first lady,” a second source said.

Mrs. Trump is expected to travel to the White House as needed, according to the sources.

As expected, the decision would continue the heavy security presence around Trump Tower, the Post noted.

“That building is going to become the White House of New York,” the president of the N.C. based global security company TigerSwan, Jim Reese, told the Post.
