Houston reporter fired for expressing relief over Trump’s win on her private Facebook page

Texas newswoman Scarlett Fakhar was fired from her position as a reporter at Houston’s KRIV-TV for showing her support for President-elect Donald Trump on her personal Facebook page.

In the same post she criticized President Barack Obama and made this factual statement about black-on-black murder:

“I hate to say it.. but the number of African-Americans killing one another far outweighs the number of them being killed by whites,” she wrote, according to the Houston Chronicle.

After Fakhar offered her post-election thoughts to Facebook, she was roundly criticized by others — including other journalists — so she removed the post and offered an immediate apology.

“I profusely apologize for making public my personal views on the outcome of the election and other issues. It was wholly inappropriate, as a journalist, to do that. Again, my sincere apologies.”

But the apology wasn’t enough for the local Fox affiliate, which confirmed her dismissal.

Fakhar made one final post to her Facebook fan page before the station removed it.

“Fox 26 Houston fired me today for expressing my conservative views on my private Facebook page,” she wrote. “That is all I will say for now.”

She also announced her dismissal on her personal Facebook page.

It didn’t take long for news of her dismissal to hit social media.

A few suggested other ideas for employment.

Fakhar was fired for offering her personal political opinion. But one can’t help but wonder if she would still be reporting the news had her opinion been disappointment that Hillary Clinton had lost the election last week.
