Obama and Trump tout cordial White House meeting, but viral photo paints a different picture

Despite an occasional clinched jaw or two, President Barack Obama welcomed President-Elect Donald Trump to the White House on Thursday in a show of unity.

…if you discount White House staff.

The two men met for more than an hour and a half in the Oval Office, even though the meeting was only scheduled to run 15 minutes, according to Trump.

“We are going to want to do everything we can to help you succeed,” the president told Trump. “Because if you succeed, then the country succeeds.”

But, based on a widely circulated photo of White House staffers, Obama must have had a mouse in his pocket when he said “we.”

The photo includes top White House senior adviser Valerie Jarrett, National Security Adviser Susan Rice and White House Communications Director Jen Psaki, among others, and almost to the man, or woman, they were dressed in black as if attending a funeral.

And everyone is talking about it.

With arms crossed and sullen looks on their face, you can only imagine how “smooth” the transition of power is going to be.

For his part, Trump made good on trying to extend an olive branch, calling Obama a “very good man” and said it was “a great honor” to meet the president — the two men had never met before Thursday.

“We discussed a lot of different situations, some wonderful and some difficult,” Trump said. “I very much look forward to dealing with the president in the future.”
