FBI probe jogs memories! Clintons’ charity suddenly confirms Qatar’s $1 mil gift while she was at State Dept

The FBI announcement of a renewed probe into Hillary Clinton’s emails seems to have jogged some memories at the Clinton Foundation.

The charity now confirms it did accept a $1 million gift from Qatar but did not inform the State Department while Clinton served as secretary of state, according to Reuters. Last month, the Foundation declined to confirm the donation had been made or received.

Despite signing an ethics agreement with the Obama White House promising to reveal when any foreign donors wished to “increase materially” their support of programs, Clinton managed to miss reporting Qatar’s donation.

The Arab country pledged the money in 2011 to mark Bill Clinton’s 65th birthday and planned to present it to him in person the following year, according to hacked emails from Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign chairman, John Podesta.

According to Reuters:

In response to additional questions, a foundation spokesman, Brian Cookstra, this week said that it accepted the $1 million gift from Qatar, but this did not amount to a “material increase” in the Gulf country’s support for the charity. Cookstra declined to say whether Qatari officials received their requested meeting with Bill Clinton.

Officials at Qatar’s embassy in Washington and in its Council of Ministers in the capital, Doha, declined to discuss the donation.

The State Department has said it has no record of the foundation submitting the Qatar gift for review, and that it was incumbent on the foundation to notify the department about donations that needed attention. A department spokeswoman did not respond to additional questions about the donation.

Another WikiLeaks released email revealed that a former fundraiser for the Clinton Foundation said he raised more than $21 million in donations connected with Bill Clinton’s 2011  birthday.
