An Indiana man caused a commotion on social media after he made a parade float that depicted Donald Trump executing his rival Hillary Clinton.
The float, which appeared in the Aurora Farmer’s Fair, was created by Frank Linkmeyer, who said he didn’t mean to offend anyone.
“Could have had Donald Trump in the electric chair. It was a tossup,” he told WCPO.
He said he and his brother have done this kind of thing in the parade for years.
“Police officers, judges, nurses, doctors, heart transplant patients — just a variety of things and the people in Aurora and the surrounding area love to see us in the parade,” Linkmeyer said.
But this time, argued Aurora resident Penny Britton, the pair was sexist and racist, as the float also featured a black Easter Island head named “Obama.”
“Who thinks this is appropriate for a fair parade where children, some of them minorities and girls, are marching and playing instruments and watching? Who thinks this is something to laugh at or be proud of?” Britton wrote on Facebook. “This is disgusting. This makes me embarrassed to say I live here. This is Aurora, Indiana. Congratulations.”
Not all residents shared her sentiment.
“He does something every year. Frank’s Frank,” Patrick Schwing told WCPO. “I don’t see anything wrong with it. If anybody’s offended by it, then they shouldn’t look at it.”
“It’s all in fun. Laughter is the best medicine in life and this country needs more laughter — and the people that are offended by it,” Linkmeyer, who claims to be a Democrat, said. “I’m sorry. Don’t come to the parade next time.”
