Mike Pence brings up Kaine’s son in hot debate exchange

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence confronted his Democratic opponent Tim Kaine with one brutal line involving their military sons in Tuesday’s first vice presidential debate.

As the debate moderator made several attempts to move on, Pence told Kaine that their sons would “be court martialed” if they had acted like Hillary Clinton with handling classified information.

Pence had been hammering the Democratic presidential nominee on the scandal surrounding her private email server from her tenure as secretary of state.

“It’s important in this moment to remember that Hillary Clinton had a private server in her home that had classified information on it about drone strikes. Emails from the president of the United States were on there. Her private server was subject to being hacked,” the Republican vice presidential nominee said. “We could put cybersecurity first if we just make sure the next secretary of state doesn’t have a private server.”

“A full investigation concluded that not one reasonable prosecutor would take any additional steps. You don’t get to decide the rights and wrongs of this. We have a justice system that does that and a Republican FBI director did an investigation, ” Kaine responded, disagreeing.

“Senator,” Pence said bluntly over the moderator’s direction to move on, “if your son or my son handled classified information the way Hillary Clinton did, they would be court-martialed.”

Both men have sons serving in the Marines Corps.
