Two main suspects in NYC bombing were able to hightail it out of the country

Two men wanted by the FBI in connection with the New York City bombing have reportedly left the country.

The FBI put out a wanted poster for the two young men, who were caught on camera walking off with the luggage that contained one of the planted bombs. Sometime later the duo boarded a plane and left the country, according to multiple new reports.

“Men who walked away with bag containing pressure cooker bomb in NYC are NOT in the U.S. but [the FBI] now knows who and where they are,” Good Morning America tweeted Wednesday.

No one has come forward to the FBI with any information about their identities, sources told dnainfo’s Murray Weiss.  And investigators believe they may have been tourists who left the city shortly after the bombing and are possibly unaware they are wanted by the FBI as witnesses.

Investigators are traveling to interview the two men, whose identities have not been released. Investigators tracked them down using surveillance footage, photos and registration records. In addition to questioning the two men as witnesses, the FBI wants to figure out whether fingerprints on the bomb that did not match the suspected planter Ahmad Khan Rahami belong to those two men.

In the process of removing the bomb from the suitcase investigators believe the two men inadvertently deactivated the bomb. A similar bomb exploded a few blocks from that location, injuring more than 30 people.
