College student bullied for wearing pro-Trump hat; ‘It’s hate language on campus’

The mere sight of a student’s red, Donald Trump “Make America Great Again” visored ball cap prompted wails of protest and cries of “hate language” this week — at a Canadian college.

Yep! They need “safe spaces” in Canada also, it seems.

Video posted to YouTube depicts a young man sporting the cap at Calgary’s Mount Royal University being confronted by a female student.

“You’re not allowed to share hate language in a university,” said the woman, identified by CBC News as Zoe Slusar.

Slusar, a former vice-president of student life at MRU, attempted to snatch the cap from its wearer, student Matt Linder.

“I’m not allowed to support a political candidate?” an amused Linder asked.

But Slusar didn’t see any humor in the situation and a real cap fight soon developed.

“Make America Great Again’ means make America all for white people,” she insisted. “No immigrants, no people of different sexual orientation.”

Someone off-camera pointed out that Trump’s wife is an immigrant and that it illegal immigration to which the Republican presidential nominee is opposed.

After arguing the point briefly, Slusar turned back to confront Linder again.

“Listen, dude,” she began. “We’re friends and I’ll level with yo, but you gotta take the hat off.”

She advised Linder that if he didn’t remove the cap she’d take the matter up with the university.

“It’s not allowed,” she insisted. “It’s hate language on campus.”

The clip ended when a male student snatched the cap off Linder.

“Thank you, thank you, thank you,” Slusar can be heard saying.

After the incident, Slusar provided CBC News with a statement. She wrote:

He is allowed to wear the hat. As a student, I disagree with what the hat represents. I have diverse friends (culturally and sexually) who would drop a class if the person wearing the hat was sitting in the room with them, because they would feel unsafe. Given the deeper issues of intolerance and oppression represented by the hat, I disagree with it.

University officials declined to comment on the specifics of the confrontation.
