Colin Kaepernick, the mixed-race $126 million quarterback for the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers, has set a few conditions on when, or if, he will stand to show respect for the United States of America during the playing of the national anthem.
“When there’s significant change — and I feel like that flag represents what it’s supposed to represent, and this country is representing people the way it’s supposed to — I’ll stand,” the ungrateful player said on Sunday at the team’s training facility, according to USA Today.
But as far as James Woods is concerned, Kaepernick can keep his “worthless ass in the mud.”
Echoing the sentiments of millions of Americans, the outspoken actor posted a meme with the players conditions, along with the caption: “Don’t tarnish our flag by standing. Just stay where you choose to be, with your worthless ass in the mud #Kaepernick.”

Kaepernick set off a firestorm when he refused to stand during the playing of the national anthem the night before during a preseason game against the Green Bay Packers, saying afterwards that he is “not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color.”
The issue is showing no signs of going away and is proving to be a real headache for the NFL. And while the criticism of Kaepernick has reached a fever pitch, social media user Chris Gibbs has a brilliant idea: “Take his platform from him. Leave him in the locker room during Anthem. Then let him sit the bench.”
Here’s a sampling of responses to Woods’ tweet from Twitter:
