Trump gets pummeled for response to shooting of NBA star Dwyane Wade’s cousin

Donald Trump has spent better than a week cultivating the black and Hispanic vote in America and the candidate jumped on the tragic shooting Friday in Chicago of the cousin of NBA superstar Dwyane Wade to reiterate his point that these voters have little to lose in supporting him.

But, in the process, the Republican nominee was heavily criticized for not offering any condolences.

Trump took to Twitter Saturday to say: “Dwyane Wade’s cousin was just shot and killed walking her baby in Chicago. Just what I have been saying. African-Americans will VOTE TRUMP!”

*In an earlier tweet, Trump misspelled Wade’s first name, which has an unusual spelling.

The cousin, Nykea Aldridge, was a mother of four who had just registered her kids at a neighborhood elementary school and was pushing her baby in a stroller with a man when shots rang out — she was “killed by crossfire.”

The shooting was reportedly gang related.

While speaking at a rally in Michigan last week, Trump pointed to the many economic disadvantages African-Americans are faced with after decades of voting for Democrats to ask, “What do yo have to lose by trying something new? Like Trump?”

“You’re living in poverty, your schools are no good, you have no jobs, 58% of your youth is unemployed — what the hell do you have to lose?” the candidate asked.

Rival Hillary Clinton responded at the time to Trump’s appeal in a tweet of her own, saying, “This is so ignorant it’s staggering.”

Trump got it right after a few tries, but Twitter users, particularly “Never-Trumpers,” were brutally unforgiving.
