Republican vice presidential nominee Mike Pence blasted the media for its biased coverage of his running mate and called on supporters to rally behind Donald Trump.
“It’s pretty rough out there. It’s like two-on-one most days with the media doing most of Hillary’s work for her,” Pence told a New Hampshire crowd Thursday at a campaign stop.
“Just about every day, the national media latches onto some issue about my running mate. It really does,” Pence said at the town hall in Manchester. “I mean, the media is so busy parsing every word that Donald Trump said in the last 30 minutes, they don’t have time to cover what the Clintons have been up to for the last 30 years.”
Despite the negative coverage of the GOP nominee, Pence said the most powerful weapon against the media bias is the average Trump supporter.
“The good news is Donald Trump is still winning hearts and minds,” Pence said.
“The most powerful media in America is you,” he said. “Word of mouth has always been and will always be the most powerful form of communication because when you sit down with a neighbor and friend who has known you for years, you sit down over a cup of coffee, you stop somebody at your place of worship, or you run into somebody at the grocery store, you stop somebody at work and you just say, hey, you know I just was with Mike the other day and he told us to tell somebody so I’m just going to tell you, I’m voting for Donald Trump and here’s why.”
Pence’s message to the New Hampshire voters, and all voters, was to see the power they wield.
“All the front pages in the world” don’t compare to the credibility of the average voter, he said.
“Donald Trump gets it, right? He’s a genuine article. He’s a doer in a game usually reserved for talkers. When Donald Trump does his talking, he doesn’t go tiptoeing around the thousands of rules of political correctness that the media and the elites impose,” Pence said. “He tells it like it is. And the American people hear him loud and clear.”
