Pro-Trump challenger clobbers Trump-hating incumbent in Kansas GOP primary

The curse of Ted Cruz has claimed its first victim.

Incumbent Kansas Republican Rep. Tim Huelskamp, a “#NeverTrump advocate,” was defeated by pro-Trump challenger Roger Marshall in Tuesday’s primary.

Huelskamp, an ardent backer of Texas U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz for president, in May spoke out against Trump’s lack of a conservative pedigree in a face-off with Newt Gingrich.

Huelskamp is chairman of the House Tea Party Caucus and had a tenuous relationship with House leadership that saw him kicked off of the House Agricultural Committee, the Kansas City Star reported.
