DNC official speculates Cruz’s dad really WAS part of plot to kill JFK, while bashing Trump for saying it

Blake Neff , DCNF

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s oddball conspiracy theory that Sen. Ted Cruz’s father was involved in the death of former President John F. Kennedy has received some unexpected support: the Democratic National Committee (DNC).

Trump has repeatedly promoted the notion that Rafael Cruz met with Lee Harvey Oswald prior to Oswald’s assassination of Kennedy. The claim is based on a photo published in the National Enquirer which shows Oswald passing out leaflets supporting Fidel Castro while in New Orleans. The Enquirer claims another man seen in the photo handing out fliers is Cruz. The theory has generally been regarded as a long shot, to say the least.

But in one of over 20,000 internal DNC emails released Friday by the group Wikileaks, DNC communications director Luis Miranda idly speculates that Cruz may genuinely have had some links to Cuban extremists, and through them to a plot to kill Kennedy.

Miranda’s comments were made May 3, ironically, while preparing a DNC press release bashing Trump for promoting the Oswald theory.

“While I will note that Cruz’s father was in fact a militant who fought the Batista regime (which Fidel Castro defeated),” Miranda says. “And it would not be unusual for him to be caught up in the ugly web of Cuban militants with questionable histories … I think this is a fun hit.”

Miranda cites a variety of examples of suspicious Cuban characters in the U.S. that Cruz could have been “caught up” with, such as Watergate burglars Virgilio Gonzales and Eugenio Martinez, plane bomber Luis Posada Carriles, and militants active during wars in Central America. Notably, Posada has been a figure in some Kennedy conspiracy theories, with theorists alleging he has knowledge of an anti-Kennedy plot and may have been in Dealey Plaza the day Kennedy was shot.

“Luis swooping in with the Cuban history!” Deputy communications director Christina Freundlich said in response to Miranda’s email. His comments otherwise don’t seem to have provoked any response.
