German authorities said it’s too early to determine a motive for the shooting rampage that killed nine on Friday.
But one witness, a Muslim woman who spoke to CNN, gave a very big clue as to what the 18-year-old German-Iranian killer’s motivation might have been.
“My son saw in the toilet, the man loading his gun. It was a pistol. I come out of the toilet, and I hear the — like an alarm boom boom boom. He is killing the children. They make nothing. They were sitting to eat. They can’t run,” the woman, who CNN called “Loretta” for her safety, said.
“I hear ‘Allahu Akbar,’ ‘Allahu Akbar,’ she continued. “This I know because I’m Muslim too. I hear this and I only crying.”
But that wasn’t enough for German authorities to pinpoint what might have caused the 18-year-old German-Iranian mass murderer to go on a shooting spree at the Munich McDonald’s.
“The question of terrorism or a rampage is tied to motive, and we don’t know the motive,” Munich police chief Hubertus Andrae told reporters.
The investigation is in its early stages.
