Obama thought he could slam Newt over ‘test’ for Muslims, but Gingrich had a biting response

Former Republican Speaker Newt Gingrich zinged President Barack Obama on Friday for the president’s criticism of his strong response to the terrorist attack in Nice, France that claimed the lives of at least 84 people, including many children.

Gingrich took to social media to tell Obama he forfeits his right to criticize because, after eight years, the president still has no plans to defeat radical Islam. He also challenged Obama on the handling of Syrian refugees coming to the U.S.

On Thursday, the night of the attack in Nice, Gingrich suggested that the U.S. should “test every person here who is from a Muslim background, and if they believe in Sharia, they should be deported.”

He would later clarify that “with an American citizen, deportation is impossible,” in reference to the Constitution.

Obama hit back hard Friday during at a White House reception for the Washington diplomatic corps.

“In the wake of last night’s attacks, we’ve heard more suggestions that all Muslims in America be targeted, tested for their beliefs; some deported or jailed,” the president said. “And the very suggestion is repugnant and an affront to everything that we stand for as Americans.”
