Donald Trump spent part of his Independence Day meeting with Sen. Joni Ernst, sparking rumors about a vice presidential pick.
The presumptive Republican presidential nominee posted a message Saturday on Twitter about the upcoming meeting.
I look forward to meeting @joniernst today in New Jersey. She has done a great job as Senator of Iowa!

Despite the speculation unleashed about the meeting, the Iowa senator released a statement saying the two discussed the best path forward for the country, with no comments about her joining Trump as his running mate.

Nevertheless, the rumor mill had been set in motion with reactions to the meeting.
No one saw Joni Ernst meeting coming. Is it for real, or is Trump trying to show his short list doesn’t only include men?

Though there has been no official word, social media users weighed in on the possibility of a Trump/Ernst ticket, with some praising the idea and others not so much.
Hope Trump goes with Sen. Joni Ernst! Sure, she’s not perfect and won’t please all of us but we won’t find anyone to please everyone.

Joni Ernst’s consideration is a good move from Trump. Military experience and ability to win in a blue state. Crossover appeal.

@HowardKurtz am hoping it’s for real.

@HowardKurtz Trump simply meeting randomly bunch of rumored VP R-leaders in an attempt to give the impression of big VP list, but it’s not.

@HowardKurtz Maybe all the self-respecting women turned him down….so it took a while for him to find any woman who’d meet with him.

Joni Ernst has too bright a future to be associated with Donald Trump. https://t.co/8kTvlkQFNc

Sen. Joni Ernst is the 2016 uodate of the 2008 Sarah Palin software. Both buggy and often crash. #GOP #Trump

@Karoli If Joni is still into castrating pigs, choosing her won’t end well for Trump.

Trump also met with Indiana Gov. Mike Pence on Saturday, apparently expanding the list of possible running mates.
