Report: Sizable percentage of 1 million illegals ignoring deportation orders are ‘conviction criminals’

With President Obama’s continued effort to gut America’s immigration laws running apace, nearly one million illegal immigrants have simply ignored deportation orders. That includes 170,000 immigrants convicted of crimes, many of them violent crimes like rape and murder.

According to a new study by Jessica Vaughan, policy studies director at the Center for Immigration Studies, only a tiny fraction of immigrants flagged for deportation are actually being deported by Obama’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

“The fact that almost 10 percent of the illegal resident population has already been ordered removed and is still here illustrates just how dysfunctional our immigration enforcement system is. It also should be of great concern that 20 percent of them are conviction criminals, and that most of these are at large in our communities,” Vaughan said in her study.

From data supplied by the federal government Vaughn discovered that 925,193 aliens were still living in the U.S. despite being ordered by ICE to return to their home country. Nearly 2200,000 of that number are Mexican nationals. 150,000 are from El Salvador.

Vaughn also found that the illegals who are ignoring deportation orders generally fall into three categories. 1). People whose countries are refusing to take them back, 2). Illegals who have simply absconded and eluded government surveillance, and 3). Illegals who are hiding in so-called “sanctuary cities” right here in the U.S.

Of the latter, Vaughn blames local liberal policies:

Dozens of state and local governments have adopted sanctuary policies that obstruct ICE from taking custody of deportable aliens. An ICE report we made public last year listed a number of occasions when criminal aliens with prior deportation orders were released to the street instead of turned over to ICE for deportation. The most notorious example is Juan Francisco Lopez Sanchez, who was slated for his sixth deportation after serving time in a federal prison in California, when San Francisco asked to take custody of him for prosecution on an old drug charge. The charge was quickly dropped, but Sanchez was eventually released as per local policy prohibiting cooperation with ICE. A few months after his release (and one year ago today), Sanchez shot and killed Kate Steinle, apparently randomly, as she walked on a San Francisco Pier with her father. Many local jurisdictions across the country have policies that bar the transfer of aliens to ICE on the basis of an outstanding deportation order.

But much of the blame can also be laid at the feet of the Obama administration. In the past four years Obama has steadily dialed down the number of deportations and purposefully been releasing tens of thousands of illegals out onto the streets some of them with violent criminal records.

As Breitbart News reported earlier this year, nearly 90,000 illegals the government deemed “criminal threats” were released back into our population.
