After days of anticipation, Trump finally weighs in on SCOTUS’s abortion ruling–and it’s a humdinger

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump weighed in on the Supreme Court’s decision Monday in Whole Women’s Health vs. Hellerstedt, which ruled on two provisions of Texas’ abortion law.

The high court ruled as unconstitutional a provision requiring abortion performing physicians to have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles of the the procedure’s location.

It also found a second provision unconstitutional, requiring that abortion clinics comply with the state’s standards required of ambulatory surgical centers.

The court struck down both provisions in a 5-3 decision.

Talk radio host Mike Gallagher brought up the Supreme Court’s decision during Trump’s appearance on the show Thursday.

“There’s your first example right there,” Trump said, remarking on the differences between him and presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

“Now if we had Scalia or Scalia was replaced by me we wouldn’t have had that, OK?,” he continued “It would have been the opposite. But you know, there’s your first example right there and that’s going to be the first of many.”

CBS News reporter Sopan Deb, who’s following the Trump campaign, provided the full transcript of this exchange.

Noting the vote tally, several on social media called Trump on his math.

Of course, the next president will likely be appointing more than one Supreme Court Justice, making the stakes very high for the country’s future.
