‘Nightie’ dress too short for Wimbledon – Nike getting clobbered for it

Things are getting hot at Wimbledon, and we’re not talking Fahrenheit.

It’s Czech player Lucie Šafářová’s new Nike tennis dress, which the activewear giant dubbed the “Premier Slam,” but left tournament officials displaying red faces.

Some out of embarrassment; others out of anger. Some say that the outerwear shows too much down under and many are saying it looks like a “nightie.”

British player Katie Swan, 17, even ended up tucking the dress into her shorts when it got into the way of her defeat to Hungarian Tímea Babos Tuesday, according to The Guardian.

“Nike probably has departments devoted to wearer trials,” activewear Every Second Counts founder Sally Dixon said. “I’m very surprised. Players don’t expect to have to redesign kit to make it fit for purpose,” she said of Swan’s adjustment mid-game.

Germany’s Sabine Lisicki and American Serena Williams refused to wear the dress outright.
