Baltimore Police Department Director of Media Relations T.J. Smith, ripped MSNBC on social media Thursday for an “absolutely irresponsible” graphic from last year while reporting on the trial of Officer Caesar Goodman, who would be found not guilty on all charges in the death of Freddie Gray.
Goodson was the officer driving the van that transported Gray and faced the most serious charge of second-degree depraved-heart murder — Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby’s weak case was literally laughed out of court.
Under a banner that said “Happening Now,” MSNBC played footage of last year’s riots in the city as they discussed the coming verdict.

The deceptive editing could easily mislead viewers into thinking that Baltimore was rioting in response to the Goodson ruling and Smith denounced it on Twitter, saying MSNBC’s actions were “shameful.”
That is absolutely irresponsible looping last years coverage. Shameful. https://t.co/HBbMPOYP5f

In an effort to help the network report accurately, Smith posted a link to the video below, which depicts a more tranquil scene — just to set the record straight:
