Actor and television host Mike Rowe honestly responded to a critic who attempted to shame him over his lack of military service.
The “Dirty Jobs” host posted a letter from a woman named Donna to his Facebook account on Monday.
“Mr. Rowe, I was impressed by some of the things you’ve done in your life,” she wrote, “but that came to an end when I discovered that you apparently never volunteered to serve in your country’s military. Why is that?”
Rowe politely replied, giving a refreshingly candid answer.
“I put myself before my country, and pretty much everything else” he wrote adding, “the honest answer is because I was selfish.”
The response, which follows in its entirety, may have surprised Donna.
Other social media users were quick to support Rowe and turn the tables on Donna.

@mikeroweworks well positioned response. Serving is a noble choice, not serving does not make 1 disrespectful, ungrateful, or less American.

@mikeroweworks Devil’s Advocate, here’s hoping she was just asking because she felt you’d make a fine soldier.

@mikeroweworks Why do people think they have the right to judge celebrities lives? Do they live in glass houses? Grow up already.
