It’s not how big the political scandal is — it’s the party affiliation of the person who allegedly created the scandal.
The truth of that statement was brought home in spades this week when police shut down to the general public a lane of traffic entering the Lincoln Tunnel.
This was done at the behest of a major fundraiser of New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio in order to accommodate his gazillionaire friend, Israeli diamond dealer Lev Leviev.
The New York Post reported:
Leviev, who’s known as the “King of Diamonds” and owns pricey jewelry boutiques in New York, London, Dubai and Singapore, was given a police escort through the tunnel after de Blasio’s shady friend Jeremy Reichberg arranged through his NYPD contacts to close one of the lanes, sources said.
It was unclear when the shutdown occurred, but law enforcement sources said the request did not go through official channels and there was no documentation of the incident.
If lane closures between New York and New Jersey sound familiar, it’s because of the nearly-three-year-old so-called “Bridgegate” scandal, which is still plaguing New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.
Although the controversy, which centered on lane closures on the George Washington Bridge, took place in September of 2013, it’s still being argued in the courts.
Christie’s name is still associated with Bridgegate, although no one has presented any evidence that he was even aware of the bridge closures.
But Christie is a Republican; de Blasio is a Democrat. Nothing more to say.
