While most Americans are lucky to get a few days vacation if they even have a job, Michele Obama has become a frequent world traveler on the taxpayer’s dime. And now she is planning one last whirlwind tour of the world as her husband heads for the exits of the White House.
In her big last trip, First Lady Michelle and her entourage will require a sizable sum of your tax dollars to tour Margibi County, Liberia, Marrakech, Morroco and Madrid, Spain from June 27 to July 1, according to a White House statement.
But she won’t be dragging just her daughters and her large traveling cortege along on this world-wide extravaganza. This trip will also feature the presence of two Hollywood actresses. Meryl Streep and Frieda Pinto will join Michelle and daughters Sasha and Mali on this tax-funded merry-go-round visit of countries.
The actresses are along to join Obama at a school in Unification Town, Liberia, on June 27 to talk to school age girls about education. The three are scheduled to hold a panel on education with Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
Michelle has been criticized repeatedly for her lavish vacations on the taxpayer’s dime and this trip is no exception. It has already been estimated that the cost to the American people for her Liberia/Spain trip will be at considerable.
According to the Daily Mail, Obama’s “star-studded and taxpayer funded final tour” will cost the taxpayers $300,000 just for the flight alone. That doesn’t include the hotels and on ground costs, meaning this trip will easily exceed a million dollars.
Washington watchdog group Judicial Watch has spent the last seven years chronicling the lavish vacations wracked up by Michelle and her brood.
For her 2015 China trip, for instance, Judicial Watch found that the cost to taxpayers was 225 times more than the cost for a week-long vacation by the average American family, and that was just for the flight costs alone. Also during that trip, Michelle and members of her family each had their own $8,350-per-night room at the Beijing presidential suite.
Just last year the latest tally of Michelle’s lavish traveling added up to a whopping $45 million in expenses since her husband took office.
By March of 2015 Michelle had indulged 31 international trips lasting 119 days. Far more than Ronald Reagan’s 14 trips lasting 73 days and he was the actual president.
