An open letter to the gay community from a Conservative

Dear Gay Community,

We conservatives haven’t always had the best relationship with you. Some of us have allowed differences of opinion to divide us from each other and distract us from the many issues on which we see eye to eye.

It may be hard for you to believe from what you see in the mainstream media but the truth is the majority of us don’t want to police your bedroom.

As with any group there are those that are extremely vocal in their feelings and, often, those loudest voices dominate the conversation on each side.

On Sunday, when a man with a heart filled with hate and evil intentions struck your community and massacred 49 Americans, we felt your pain.

You are us and we are you. Gay and straight, black and white, man and woman, the truth is we are all in danger from the very real threat of radical Islamic terrorism.

I don’t know if this madman attacked a gay nightclub because its patrons were gay, as it has come to light that the murderer was very likely gay himself.

What I do know is he slaughtered those innocent, party going, happy people because they were Americans. He did it so that all of us live in fear when we do our daily activities.

And that is why I make this plea to you.

Join us in the conservative movement and help us to eradicate and annihilate this threat.

Yes, there are pains and deep wounds we need to heal from and apologies we need to make to you. But it is painfully, glaringly and frighteningly obvious the Democrat party has failed to keep us safe.

Whatever differences you have with George W. Bush, the 9/11 attacks were planned during the Bill Clinton presidency when terrorism was treated as a regular crime and not a war.

After 9/11 there was not another attack on American soil during the Bush years because the fight was taken to the terrorists.

During the Obama years, unfortunately, there have been many.

Fort Hood, 2009; Boston Marathon, 2013; Moore, Oklahoma Beheading, 2014; Garland, Texas, 2015; San Bernardino, 2015; Orlando, Florida, 2016.

People on the Democrat side still want to tell you that this killer has more in common with the Columbine murderers and Dylann Roof than he has with the Islamic State.

They want to tell you the problem is guns and not radical Islam. They are dangerously incorrect.

Yes, some of us are still going to disagree about bathrooms and baking cakes but that is America. We can disagree and still love and protect each other and our free speech right to disagree.

Let’s work together to preserve those freedoms so we can continue to disagree, safely.
