Orlando shooter’s photos wearing NYPD shirts raise questions as new information comes out

There is something striking in the photographs purported to be of Orlando gay nightclub shooter Omar Mateen.

Earlier Sunday, following the shooting at the Pulse nightclub in which 50 people have been confirmed dead, BPR and other news outlets, posted MySpace pictures of an Omar Mateen who matches the age and location of the shooter.

Among the selfies Mateen posted were two that stood out.

Pictures of him wearing an NYPD t-shirt and another in a shirt with an NYPD logo.

So far, information is coming out in waves on the shooter. The whole picture will not be clear until a full investigation has been completed, but The Daily Beast reported that “Mateen was born in New York and was married for a time to a woman from New Jersey.”

No link to the NYPD has been established at this time.

The entertainment website TMZ asked the department about the shirts.

“The NYPD tells TMZ, Mateen has no association with the department, and that the shirts he was photographed in were unofficial garments that could be purchased at any store.”
