Singer Christina Grimmie, a former contestant on NBC’s “The Voice” was shot dead outside of her Orlando concert Friday night.

While signing autographs for fans, a man carrying two guns walked up to the singer and shot the 22-year old, Orlando police spokeswoman Wanda Ford told reporters.

Grimmie’s brother tackled the man but he shot and killed himself before he could be apprehended, CNN reported.

“Her brother is a hero for saving and stopping him from not hurting anyone else,” Ford stated.

The singer was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and died a few hours later, according to CNN.

“It is with a heavy heart that we can confirm that Christina has passed and went home to be with the Lord,” Heather Weiss, Grimmie’s publicist, said in a statement.

“She was shot at her show in Orlando and, unfortunately, didn’t survive the gunshot wounds. We ask at this time that you respect the privacy of her family and friends in their time of mourning.”

Prior to the show Grimmie posted a video on social media encouraging fans to come to the show.

The band she was performing with, Before Your Exit, posted a statement to social media expressing its condolences.
