Police were forced to shoot a man outside of Dallas’ Love Field Airport on Friday after he charged at them with two rocks.

The wild scene was caught on surveillance video, yet there were cries of racism on social media because the man who police shot, 29-year-old Shawn Nicholas Diamond, is black.

Diamond, who arrived from Maryland to visit his girlfriend, was arrested on Tuesday on criminal mischief charges after he destroyed city trees with his reckless driving, NBCDFW reported.

According to Randall Blakenbaker, assistant police chief of the Dallas Police Department‘s Special Investigation Unit, the Friday incident began as an argument between Diamond and the woman.

After the woman removed bags from the car Diamond started smashing the back window with a traffic cone and then used large landscaping rocks to break the vehicle’s other windows, NBCDFW reported.

That’s when an officer intervened and Diamond charged at him with a rock in each hand.

The officer hit him with 4 shots and yelled at him to stay down. Diamond got up with rocks still in his hand and ran at the officer a second time forcing the officer to shoot him again.

Diamond was taken to the hospital and is listed in stable condition.

By Friday afternoon the shooting caused the delay of nearly 100 flights, according to Fox News.

The police officer who fired the shots has been removed from patrol duty pending an internal review but “the video is pretty telling,” Dallas Police Chief David Brown told reporters.

Not telling enough for some on social media.
