Controversy exploded on social media this week when someone decided to share what they found when they searched Google for black teenagers and white teenagers.

Twitter user @iBeKabir posted a video that showed him first searching for “three black teenagers” and coming up with mainly pictures of mugshots.

When he changed the search word to “white” the picture results returned were mainly happy, smiling stock photos of young white people.

The tweet has received nearly 50,000 retweets since it was first posted on Monday.

Some of those who responded thought the results reeked of racism and white privilege.

Others had another perspective on why the results are so dissimilar.
