Retired neurosurgeon and former presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson pictured a foreboding future for the United States if Republicans don’t rally around Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.

“America, right now, is like a cruise ship that is about to go off of Niagara Falls with tremendous carnage and death,” Carson told “Fox & Friends” Monday. “What you have to do first is recognize the problem, stop the ship, turn it around and then move in the other direction.”

Carson’s statement was prompted by a tweet that The Weekly Standard’s Bill Kristol posted Sunday, announcing that “There will be an independent candidate–an impressive one, with a strong team and a real chance.”

That tweet drew immediate criticism from fellow Republicans and launched a stern warning from Trump.

Carson added his own warning.

“And remember this,” he added. “A quarter of a century ago another Clinton was running for the White House. And it was the entrance of a third-party candidate — Ross Perot — that made it possible for him to win. Now wouldn’t it be ironic if the same thing happened again this time?”

He said he had no idea who Kristol’s third-party candidate is, although he’d heard rumors. But Carson offered that individual some stern advice.

“I’m hoping that whoever that third-party candidate is will stop for a moment and think about what the implications are of allowing Hillary Clinton or someone like her to get in there,” he continued. “They get two to four Supreme Court picks and completely change the nature of this  country and destroy the prospects for their children and their grandchildren to have the same opportunities that they had.”
