Donald Trump’s campaign adviser Paul Manafort told the Huffington Post how he belives the mainstream media would react to any of the vice presidential choices Trump is considering.
According to HuffPo, Manafort said that if Trump picked a woman or a minority it would only be viewed as pandering by the mainstream media.
Taken from HuffPo:
“He needs an experienced person to do the part of the job he doesn’t want to do. He sees himself more as the chairman of the board, than even the CEO, let alone the COO.”
“There is a long list of who that person could be,” Manafort added, “and every one of them has major problems.”
The campaign probably won’t choose a woman or a member of a minority group, he said. “In fact, that would be viewed as pandering, I think.”
However, during a press conference today, Trump clarified that the Huffington Post may have misquoted Manafort.
“No, I think it’s likely that we would have somebody, but we don’t do it for any specific reason,” Trump said.
Regardless of the reason, Trump and his team seem to realize the choice — whether it be a he, she, black, or white person — will be annihilated by the mainstream media.
So, why not have a little fun beforehand and keep them guessing?

Trump joked afterwards that he did not read the Huffington Post, asking “I don’t know if they cover politics at the Huffington Post. Do they cover politics?”
Previous remarks by Trump point to a “political insider” being chosen as his running mate, with the campaign repeatedly saying that having a VP who has worked in Washington DC would be ideal.
