Donald Trump reached out to conservative Hispanic voters directly, promising they would be happy with him as president.
A video, which appears to be shot from a cell phone aboard his private plane, aired at the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference in California, The Hill reported.
Trump vowed to improve poor and middle-class minority communities by lowering taxes, improving schools and creating jobs.
“National. Hispanic. Christian. Three great words. We’re going to take care of you. We’re going to work with you,” Trump said. “You’re going to be very happy. You’re going to like President Trump.”
Though Hispanic support has not been strong for the presumptive Republican nominee, conservative Hispanic leaders told The Hill that the video was a good effort to begin building better relationships with Latinos.
Trump did not mention the wall he has repeatedly said he would build on the U.S. and Mexico border, but he did address immigration. “We’re going to strengthen our borders. People are going to come into our country but they’re going to come in through a process. They’ll come in legally,” he said.
Trump also spoke on national issues like trade policies and the national debt, as well as promising to stop the inflow of drugs across the U.S. border.
“It’s not going to be easy, but I’m going to win and we’re going to take care of everybody,” he said. “Our country’s going to be unified for the first time in a long time.”
