The New York Times writers who were slammed by Donald Trump, and his ex-girlfriend, for writing a “hit piece” have fired back.
Michael Barbaro and Megan Twohey appeared on “CBS This Morning” to defend their story hours after Rowanne Brewer Lane told “Fox & Friends” the Times’ article mischaracterized her relationship with Trump.
“I’m gonna let her speak for herself,” Barbaro told Gayle King. “But I think readers of the story can digest what happened to her at Mar-A-Lago in 1990.”
Readers will understand what happened to her by reading Barbaro’s take on it rather than listening to her own words?
“To go to Rowanne’s point one of the things that we also did with this story is we kind of experimented with a new format for the New York Times,” Twohey said. “I mean we really wanted to highlight these voices and so, you know, we gave these women very large chunks of space to kind of, you know, explain their story in their own words.”
“We gathered a variety of voices. And our story is not just Rowanne’s account. It’s the experience of many women,” Twohey added.
