An Arkansas judge resigned in disgrace Monday for the secrets he kept on his computer.

Cross County District Judge Joseph Boeckmann advised the Judicial Discipline and Disability Commission that he was tendering his immediate resignation after thousands of nude photos of male criminal defendants were discovered on his computer.

He was handing out lenient sentences in exchange for sexual favors, NBC News reported.

The commission advised Boeckmann’s own lawyer in a May 5 letter that it was in the process of recovering as many as 4,500 photos from his computer.

“They all depict young men, many naked who are in various poses inside the judge’s home and outside in his yard,” the letter said.

“There are numerous photos of naked young men bending over after an apparent paddling,” the letter reads. “Please accept this as notice to not destroy [or] otherwise dispose of this paddle.”

The commission’s letter also indicated that many of the men appeared before him as defendants and received checks from the judge afterwards.

The commission filed documents earlier this year containing statements from several men, including one under the age of 18, who alleged that when appearing in Boeckmann’s court, were given his hand-written phone number. They would then be asked to arrive at his home to perform what the judge called “community service.”

NBC News reported:

In one case, a man described having a “sexual relationship” with the judge while he paid off fines that for which Boeckmann granted him extensions.

In another case, Boeckmann reduced a misdemeanor traffic violation and asked the defendant, identified in court documents as W.M., to bring three bags of cans to his home. After the judge offered him a drink — which he declined — “Boeckmann informed W.M. that he needed W.M. to pull 2 cans from the bags and bend over as if he were picking up the cans.”

The judge then instructed him “on how to pose and spread his legs farther apart,” the document states.

“I think something like that, that happened in our small town is just sick,” local resident Kimberly Chisem told WREG News Channel 3. “And it makes me fear for the rest of  the citizens in this town.”
