The once cozy relationship between Donald Trump and Joe Scarborough took a turn for the worst on Friday when the two went at each other on Twitter.
It began when the presumptive Republican presidential nominee took Scarborough to task for initially supporting some of his rivals in the GOP primary and now that Trump has prevailed, for “pushing hard for a third-party candidate to run.”

It appears Trump may have been responding to a comment from the “Morning Joe” co-host on Friday’s show that “there is not a better time for someone to run as an independent candidate.” The remark came during a discussion about the obstacles for a third-party alternative in the 2016 presidential race.
Either way, Scarborough proved that while he may be lapdog, he still has a little bite left in him, hitting back at “Donnie boy,” who he also refers to as “cowboy.”
You heard wrong, cowboy. We talk about scenarios. Never fear. MJ is going to beat CNN for the 7th straight year! ? https://t.co/DVsBHctzgd

“Rapidly fading?” Umm…we are enjoying our best ratings ever. Lots of luck, fella. https://t.co/DVsBHctzgd

Define “rapidly fading,” Donnie boy. https://t.co/DVsBHctzgd

An MSNBC spokeswoman confirmed to CNN that Scarborough is right about having the “best ratings ever.”
“‘Morning Joe’ just had its best quarter ever and for the month of April 2016, more viewers tuned into ‘Morning Joe’ than to CNN’s ‘New Day’ in both the key demo and total viewers,” the spokeswoman said.
Though, Trump may argue that the success is a result of his appearances on the show.
One thing is certain, the tiff has made for some entertaining moments on social media…. here’s a sampling of responses from Twitter:
