A pro-gun rights Florida mother, whose four year-old son accidentally shot her in the back when she was driving, may avoid jail time.

In a deferred prosecution agreement with the state attorney’s office, Jamie Lynn Gilt, 31, may avoid prosecution and incarceration if she complies with the stated conditions, CBS News reported.

According to a news release issued Friday by the state attorney’s office, Gilt will complete a gun safety course, provide proof of safe storage of firearms in her home and install a mounted holster in her vehicle. She also has to give 10 speeches about the shooting, which occurred on March 8, and the need to safely secure firearms.

Gilt’s son had reportedly unbuckled himself from his booster seat in the back of her pickup truck and found the loaded .45-caliber handgun on the floorboard. Though he thankfully did not injure himself, he accidentally fired through the front seat, shooting his mother in the back.

The gun, which was legally owned, had been placed by Gilt under her seat instead of secured in a holster, according to CBS.

The Jacksonville mom was a vocal gun-lover and had made many social media posts advocating Second Amendment gun rights. She had even posted about teaching her son to shoot. A community Facebook page that may have belonged to Gilt, Jamie Gilt for Gun Sense, has since been taken down, CBS reported.
