Is the world ready for a lesbian Disney princess?
Scores of vocal Disney fans sure think so as they rallied behind the idea launched by Feminist Culture founder Alexis Isabel, who wrote:
“Growing up, I never saw a princess fall in love with another princess — and neither have girls growing up right now.”
Isabel said that her thoughts led her to consider Disney’s “Frozen” as the perfect canvas as the company is planning a sequel to the hit movie.
“Many in the LGBT community view this movie as a metaphor for the experience of coming out and accepting who you are,” she wrote, explaining her Twitter post and the creation of the hashtag “#GiveElsaAGirlfriend.”
I hope Disney makes Elsa a lesbian princess imagine how iconic that would be

A hashtag was launched and Twitter users cheered it on.
This would be so great for the lgbt community #GiveElsaAGirlfriend

#GiveElsaAGirlfriend Because honestly it’s about time we had a gay Disney character
— Quinn (@NerdCalledQuinn) May 3, 2016
I already thought Elsa was a lesbian, sooo… #GiveElsaAGirlfriend

Given that Frozen was one giant metaphor for the closet, to #GiveElsaAGirlfriend is just logical. More LGBT representation is a great idea.

Disney should #GiveElsaAGirlfriend and all future Disney princesses because I, for one, have had enough of The Straights™

do it for the young girls who don’t realize that they’re gay until later on bc they have no role models as a child #GiveElsaAGirlfriend

— a (@stainedtees) May 1, 2016
Not everyone was on board, however.
@lexi4prez let’s not forget it’s for young kids , hopefully they’ll do an adult one for the lgbt lobby .
— Alex Cartwright (@AlexCartwrightO) May 3, 2016
@russettftbutera @AlexCartwrightO @lexi4prez we’re not talking about adults though are we? It’s about militant idiots programming kids.
— R Thomas (@Plate0fShrimp) May 3, 2016
@lexi4prez Yes let’s have very young children worry about gay rights….. get a life, seriously
— Sharon van der Haar (@SCvdHaar) May 3, 2016
@lexi4prez I hope Disney doesn’t listen to you because there is nothing iconic about that idea.
— Sanmi Odelana (@sanmiodelana) May 3, 2016
@lexi4prez While they’re at it I hope they turn Dumbo into a ferret, Mickey mouse into a snake & the Little Mermaid into a cat.
