A New York Democrat said he’s voting for Donald Trump because it’s better than having to choose between “a socialist and a corrupt criminal.”
Fox News reporter Anna Kooiman asked several voters in a Staten Island diner during Friday’s edition of “Fox and Friends” about who they planned to vote for, and Trump appeared to be the consensus choice.
Kooiman spoke with Anthony, a registered Democrat, who planned to vote for the real estate mogul. He is planning to vote outside of his party because “They’ve moved so far left.”
It’s not the way it was when I registered 30 years ago, Anthony said. “It shows you the sad state of the Democratic Party now when your only two choices are a socialist and a corrupt criminal basically.”
Kooiman asked Anthony if the FBI investigation surrounding Hillary Clinton’s emails was a concern for him.
“Absolutely,” he replied. “This email scandal is ridiculous and it gets no press other than on Fox.”
Another voter, Tammy, said she likes Trump because, “he’s out there speaking for the people” and the issue of “illegal immigrants coming into this country.”
Mary Lou told Kooiman she liked Trump because, “he’s an honest, hard working businessman who understands the daily struggles of the American people. He’s smart. He’s not a thief, a liar or a cheat, and there’s a difference between having those bad qualities, so I believe that he would be a fantastic president.”
Kooiman spoke briefly with Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis, who represents the area. Malliotakis noted the district has a lot of blue collar workers, including police, firefighters and teachers, which was very impacted by Hurricane Sandy.
