Getting your arms around the #NeverTrump movement, what it stands for, what it means, and what its long-term goals are (besides the obvious, you know, never Trump stuff), is about like trying to figure out Black Lives Matter. No discernable goals, no strategy, and no earthly idea what will happen if their proverbial dog does actually catch the car.

Started as a Twitter hashtag that means, in a nutshell, that one will never vote for Donald Trump, the mantra can simply mean the primaries, as Marco Rubio and Mark Levin (until now, apparently) have articulated. It can also mean, as a whole host of others from the editors at National Review to Christian leaders such as Michael Croatia have stated, a complete refusal to vote for or back Trump in a general election against Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders.

I have been a Trump supporter since the beginning of his campaign, but I have never had any problem with those who have chosen to support others, especially Ted Cruz, who I would consider the second best of the choices we had. I do, however, have a tremendous problem with conservatives who have made unequivocal statements saying that if Donald Trump wins the Republican nomination they will not just refuse to vote for him or support him, but actively encourage others to do so.

This position is more than just tilting at windmills (but yea, it’s definitely that), it’s political and national suicide. Instead of taking the long view of history, like liberals have been doing for decades, it says if we can’t have everything we want in a candidate we’re going to take our ball and go home like a petulant child.

If you adhere to this destructive brand of the #NeverTrump nonsense, here are some incontrovertible truths you need to wise up and face. Remember, it’s still not too late to repent!

You are pawns

Congratulations #NeverTrumpers, you have managed to somehow be on the same side as Black Lives Matter, crazy Bernie supporters, the Republican establishment, and “Cruz supporter” Lindsey Graham, all at the same time. I could never accomplish this in ten lifetimes, and yet you, you have succeeded. Your prize for this magnificent achievement will be a Hillary Clinton Presidency and a permanent leftist Supreme Court that will, book it, somehow “interpret” that the Constitution never meant to say peasants – er, citizens have a right to bear arms.

Do you honestly think the Republican establishment cares two whits about you and what you think? Do you honestly think they aren’t going to dump you like a hot potato as soon as they get their way? Most of all, do you really, truly think they intend to make Ted Cruz the nominee instead of Trump? If you do, I’ve got a border wall between Mexico and the United States to sell you.

You get hung up on silly personal stuff, like Trump’s mannerisms or whether or not he is a “real Christian.” You go to your safe space and hug your blanket when he offends your delicate sentimentalities, meanwhile the powers-that-be are afraid of him for an entirely different reason – the policies they fear he would implement, policies that actually would put America first..

You are playing checkers while they are playing chess, and the worst part is you are the pawns in their much bigger game.

You would rather see America burn than admit you are wrong

Should Trump win the nomination, I know you think Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney, or some other establishment shill is going to save you by running third-party. Take a minute and think, truly think, about that. What do you think this will accomplish? The general election is going to be difficult enough for ANY Republican to win, and yet you would welcome this so you can “vote your conscience,” knowing good and well that any sort of success will “Ross Perot” the nominee right out of contention and absolutely ensure a Hillary Clinton presidency?

Are you freaking serious?

Even if you think Donald Trump will betray conservatives or offend someone else at some point during his presidency, if there is a non-zero chance that he does ANYTHING he has promised he will do, especially the wall, it will be vastly better than losing the Supreme Court forever. And I do mean forever because Clinton’s appointments, combined with the unlimited Third World (and Muslim) immigration the Democrats have planned for us, will ensure a liberal-leaning electorate … FOREVER. Think Bernie Sanders-style socialism with a touch of Che Guervara and Fidel Castro. (We won’t go Lenin and Stalin yet – that all comes later when things are REALLY hopping – but you’re gonna love it!)

I know that you don’t like that Donald Trump made fun of that guy once that time and that time he said that bad thing, plus all the other stuff that offended you, but is permanent Third World status really worth it? Really?

You are principled individuals

I get that, deep down, you mean well. I’ll even give you the benefit of the doubt. Maybe you just haven’t thought it through. Yes, Trump has problems. Yes, he has made mistakes. But why do we have to have the perfect candidate? It just so happens that we have a front-runner whose policies, if implemented, will go a long way towards getting our country on the right track. You know this, but you are getting hung up on silly things that really are meaningless in the long run.

So yes, support Ted Cruz with every ounce of strength you have, but IF Donald Trump beats him fair and square (that is still uncertain), you have a responsibility as conservatives to vote in a way that will move conservatism forward, even if that means voting for an imperfect standard-bearer. (And yes, these points also apply to Trump supporters if Ted Cruz wins the nomination!)
