Bill O’Reilly raised his hackles Thursday when Ted Cruz called the Fox News host out for being overly-protective of Donald Trump.

The Texas senator criticized the Republican presidential front-runner’s history of heavily funding liberal Democrats, and O’Reilly argued that he did so as a businessman, “not a a politician.”

When describing Trump’s “New York values,” he brought up New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s recent statement that the state has no place for you if you’re pro-life and believe in the Second Amendment.

“Trump doesn’t subscribe to any of that,” O’Reilly countered.

“Of course he does. He funded it!” Cruz shot back.

The Fox News host conceded that Cruz was more conservative than the New York real estate mogul.

“It’s not actually a question of being more conservative or not,” Cruz argued. “Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are flip sides of the same coin. Hillary Clinton has made millions of dollars selling power and access in Washington; and Donald Trump has made billions of dollars buying power and access in Washington.”

“I’m not buying it,” O’Reilly said.

“I know — you defend him a lot Bill,” the Republican senator observed. He added that Trump is “terrified” to debate Cruz because “he doesn’t have any real solutions.”
